Pā'ū O Hi'iaka Size:12x12 print (half mat) ʻōhiʻa plays a vital roleThe moolelo (story, tale, myth, legend) of p' o hi'iaka P o hiiaka in lelo HawaiI translates to "skirt of Hiiaka". The plant's name comes from the legend of Hiiaka, the younger sister of the fire goddess Pele, who as a baby fell asleep on the beach while waiting for Pele to return from surfing. The vine like plant draped itself over Hiiaka like a skirt to protect her from the sun. Digital illustration hand drawn by JT Ojerio, the artist behind Aloha
